Gabapentin is anticonvulsant medicine which acts to treat convulsive crises, neuropathic pain, being sold in the form of capsules or tablets.

Such medicine can be marketed under the name Gabaneurin, Neurotin, for example, and is produced by EMS or Sigma Pharma, and can be used by children or adults.
A seizure occurs when there is abnormal electrical activity in the brain.
Such abnormal activity may go unnoticed, or in more serious situations, it may cause change or loss of consciousness along with voluntary muscle spasms, which is defined as a convulsive crisis, or even a seizure.
Seizures typically come on suddenly and vary in severity and duration. Seizures can be a single event or occur repeatedly.
Recurrent seizures characterize the diagnosis of epilepsy.
Indication for Gabapentin
Gabapentin is indicated to treat many forms of epilepsy, as well as relief of prolonged pain generated by nerve injuries, as occurs in the situation of diabetes, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, herpes zoster, for example.
Gabapentin should only be used with medical advice, however, the usual dose normally used to treat epilepsy corresponds to 300 to 900 mg, 3 times daily.
However, the doctor will decide the dose according to each person's conditions, never exceeding 3600 mg a day.
As for neuropathic pain, treatment always needs to be carried out with medical guidance, as the dose needs to be adapted over time, according to the intensity of pain.
Side effects
More frequent side effects of using this drug include drowsiness, fever, dizziness, weakness, skin rashes, fever, appetite change, aggressive behavior, confusion, high blood pressure, blurred vision, diarrhea, vomiting, constipation, pain belly pain, incontinence, joint pain, erection difficulties.
Gabapentin has contraindication for pregnant women, lactating women, and in case of allergy to gabapentin.
And, doses should be adapted in patients with kidney problems.
If you forget the dose of gabapentin at a time determined by your doctor, take it as soon as you remember.
But, if it is already close to the time to ingest the next dose, skip the one you forgot and take the next one, continuing normally with the dose schedule indicated by the doctor.
In this case, do not take the medicine twice to make up for missed doses. If a dose is missed, it may compromise the result for treatment.

Gabapentin action
Gabapentin is indicated to treat neuropathic pain, which is pain due to damage and/or malfunction of nerves and/or the nervous system, for adults.
And as monotherapy, and adjunct therapy for partial epileptic seizures, seizures, with or without secondary generalization, in patients aged 12 years and over.
Gabapentin should act to modulate, regulate, transmission of messages between cells to the nervous system, to reduce excitatory activity responsible for neuropathic pain and even for convulsive crises.
However, its mechanism is not entirely known. And each 300 mg or 400 mg gabapentin capsule contains the same as 300 mg or 400 mg of gabapentin, respectively.
